DAY 1
Tirana
Welcome to Albania. Your private driver will meet you at Tirana International Airport and transfer you to your hotel in the capital. Spend the remainder of the day settling in and exploring at your own pace. Tirana's compact center makes it easy to begin with a walk around Skanderbeg Square, stop at one of the city's cafés, or head toward Blloku for dinner and an introduction to contemporary Tirana. DAY 2
Tirana City Tour & Bunk'Art 1
Meet your private guide and begin exploring a capital shaped by Ottoman rule, 20th-century communism, and three decades of rapid change. Start around Skanderbeg Square, where the Et'hem Bey Mosque and surrounding landmarks introduce Tirana's historic center. Continue through the city to see how architecture, public spaces, and neighborhoods changed during the communist period and after the 1990s.
Later, visit Bunk'Art 1, built as a vast underground shelter for Albania's political leadership. Its tunnels, preserved rooms, photographs, and exhibitions provide important context for understanding the country's decades of isolation under Enver Hoxha. Return to central Tirana with the rest of the day free for cafés, restaurants, shopping, or further exploration.
DAY 3
Krujë Castle & Old Bazaar
Travel north from Tirana to Krujë, closely associated with Albania's national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg. Explore Krujë Castle and learn how the fortress became the center of resistance against the Ottoman Empire during the 15th century.
Continue into the cobbled Old Bazaar, where small shops display traditional textiles, woodwork, antiques, and locally made crafts. Take time for lunch and enjoy the mountain setting before returning to Tirana. The afternoon and evening are yours to explore the capital independently.
DAY 4
Tirana to Berat via Apollonia & Ardenica
Leave Tirana with your private driver and travel south toward one of Albania's most important archaeological sites. Ancient Apollonia developed into a major Greek and Roman center, and its surviving monuments reveal the scale and importance of the settlement. Explore the archaeological park, including its monumental remains and the medieval monastery that now forms part of the site.
Continue to Ardenica Monastery, set above the surrounding countryside, before traveling inland to Berat. On arrival, check into your hotel and spend the evening discovering the riverside promenade or the historic streets around Mangalem at your own pace.
DAY 5
UNESCO Berat, Traditional Life & Wine
Explore Berat with your private guide, beginning with the hilltop castle that still contains homes, churches, and narrow stone lanes within its walls. Continue through Mangalem and Gorica, the historic neighborhoods that earned Berat its reputation as the "City of a Thousand Windows," and cross the Osum River between the two quarters.
A traditional house visit introduces the architecture and domestic customs that shaped daily life in Berat. Later, leave the historic center for the surrounding wine country. Visit a family-run winery to learn about Albanian grape varieties, local winemaking, and raki production before tasting wines accompanied by regional products. Return to Berat for an evening at leisure.
DAY 6
Osum Canyon & Skrapar Countryside
Travel south from Berat into the rural landscapes of Skrapar and toward Osum Canyon. The Osum River has carved a deep gorge through limestone cliffs, creating one of Albania's most distinctive natural landscapes. Stop at viewpoints along the canyon and spend time exploring the surrounding countryside with your guide.
Continue toward Çorovodë for a local lunch and a closer look at life beyond Albania's principal cities. Depending on the season and your interests, the day can include a walk near the canyon or rafting when river conditions allow. Return to Berat in the afternoon with time to enjoy your final evening in the UNESCO-listed city.
DAY 7
Berat to Tirana via Durrës
Leave Berat after breakfast and travel toward the Adriatic coast for a stop in Durrës, one of Albania's oldest cities. Ancient Dyrrachium stood at the western end of the Via Egnatia, the Roman road that connected the Adriatic with the eastern Balkans.
Visit the Roman Amphitheater and continue through the historic center, where surviving fortifications and later Venetian influences reveal different periods of the city's past. Take time for lunch or a walk near the waterfront before continuing to Tirana, less than an hour away.
